Words to minutes: how long is your voiceover script?
A script runs about 1 minute per 150 words at a normal narration pace. Paste your script or type a word count to see how long it runs, or how many words fit a 60-second Short.
Script length cheat sheet
| Video length | 130 wpm | 150 wpm | 170 wpm |
|---|---|---|---|
| 30 s Short | 65 | 75 | 85 |
| 60 s Short | 130 | 150 | 170 |
| 3 min (longest Short) | 390 | 450 | 510 |
| 8 min video | 1,040 | 1,200 | 1,360 |
| 10 min video | 1,300 | 1,500 | 1,700 |
Which pace to pick
Most narrators and AI voices land between 130 and 170 words per minute. Use 150 for a normal explainer voice, 130 for calm stories or when the picture needs time on screen, and 170 for list videos and fast Shorts. Text-to-speech voices hold a steady pace, so the estimate is close. A human reader drifts more, so time one paragraph and set the slider to match.
Pauses add time too. A one-second beat between scenes in a 10-scene video adds 10 seconds that no word count shows.
Turn the script into an animated video
Once the length is right, an AI coding agent can animate the whole film in code: Claude Code, Codex or Cursor reads a ReelStyles kit and renders an MP4 on your computer. You don't pay for a video model. Read how to add a voiceover to a Claude Code video, or browse the 121 styles.
Make the video itself
ReelStyles is a set of 121 finished film styles for AI coding agents like Claude Code, Codex and Cursor, and 41 of them are made for 9:16. Your agent animates the whole film in code on your computer. 6 of the styles are free.
